What’s Your Special Memory?

When my daughter, Evie, was a little over a year old, took a trip down to Florida to visit the in-laws for Easter weekend. We had a great time and one of the highlights of the trip was watching Evie participate in her first Easter egg hunt. My mother-in-law custom made Evie’s outfit and gave her a personalized Easter basket for the occasion (which we still have today, over six years later). After we gave her a quick demonstration of how the whole Easter egg thing worked, Evie was off collecting eggs like a champ. I was eagerly taking photos throughout the activity, capturing one particularly cute moment in the process.

Fast forward over six years and I was thinking present ideas for my wife’s birthday. My mind flashed back to that particular moment. Not long after, I was able to locate the photo on my computer. Having prepped a few 8” x 8” canvases not long before, I grabbed one, sketched out the line drawing, and started painting. The result is shown here. To be honest, I like the painting more than the original photograph because, not only does it capture that special moment in an impressionism style that I love, but it also represents the skill, time, and effort required to make something truly handmade. No automation, no computer processing, no ability to hit “undo”. In my opinion, nothing beats the human touch when it comes to capturing these special moments. Sure, you can absolutely take a picture, but I think a painting makes it more special.

So, what’s your special memory? What’s that moment you want to capture forever in a special way that a photograph just can’t replicate? If you have one in particular in mind, head on other to the store and order your own custom commissioned painting. I’ll work with you every step of the way to ensure you end up with something you will love and cherish forever. Of course, I’m happy to chat with you about details before you pull the trigger, so feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have.
