Title: Evie’s Easter Egg Hunt

Medium: Oil Paint

Size: 8” x 8”

Year: 2025

Description: I painted this one for my wife’s birthday. When my daughter was a little over one year old, we all traveled down to Florida to spend time with my in-laws during Easter weekend. That weekend, their community hosted an Easter egg hunt for all of the kids - the first one my daughter had ever participated in. During the event, I was able to snap a great picture of her putting an egg into her basket, which served as the reference photo for this painting. This one had a few challenging aspects. First, the relatively small size of the painting was not particularly conducive to the level of detail I wanted to add. But, being an impressionism style painting, I was fine with omitting some of the details in favor of getting the overall shapes, colors, and tones right. Speaking of colors, the other challenge I had was getting the color of her outfit just right. It was halfway between pink and purple, but the warm sunlight also affected the color as well. It took a few tries to get it right.
