Description: Based on a reference photo from motorsports photographer, Rob Woodham, this painting captures the dynamics of a Ferrari 458 moving at high speed during the Daytona 24 hour endurance event at Daytona International Speedway. The reference photo grabbed my attention, not just because of the clear expression of speed and motion, but also due to the way the background blurs into a totally unrecognizable image. It’s as if the car is racing on another planet or at another time far into the future. It’s a very unique image, in that respect. This particular painting was one of my earliest attempts at applying an impressionist style to a painting of a car. It was challenging to stay loose with my brush strokes, especially after years of more realistic paintings and drawings. Given the newness of the style to me, I’m exceptionally pleased with how this one turned out.
