Title: Mt Vernon, Baltimore

Medium: Oil Pastel on Bristol Vellum

Size: 11” x 14”

Year: 2013

Description: I drew this for my wife, back before we were engaged. She was living in the Mt Vernon neighborhood in Baltimore at the time and we both enjoyed the area back then. However, she didn’t intend to live there long term, so I thought it would be good to give her something special to remember the area. I felt like this view captures the area well, as it features several of the area’s iconic landmarks, including the Washington Monument, the Peabody Library, and the Belvedere Hotel (we used to visit the Owl Bar at the top of the hotel from time to time to enjoy a drink and the city skyline). I focused on a more impressionistic approach to this one, keeping details light and capturing the lighting, shapes, and colors of the scene.
