Title: Lobsta Boats

Medium: Oil Paint

Size: 3’ x 3’

Year: 2018

Description: For this painting, I was going for a more realistic depiction of the scene. Whereas some of my other paintings around this time were more impressionistic, I decided to be a little more controlled with my brush strokes to achieve crisper definition. This painting is a composite of various reference images I collected and does not represent a scene taken from the real world. It is a tribute to the area where I grew up. The island in the background is a depiction of Richmond Island, which is situated off the coast of my hometown. I came up with the names of the two boats in this scene. “Two Oh Seven” refers to the area code where I grew up. “Lobsta Boat” should be self-explanatory, owing the misspelling of “Lobster” to the typical Mainer accent.

Oil painting of two lobster boats floating in calm weather during sunrise with ducks swimming in the foreground. There's an island in the background and some clouds in the sky.
