A Special Gift

I finished my second professional commission a few weeks ago. The client reached out to me via my website to inquire about a birthday present for his father. Originally, he asked about the Porsche 911 RSR oil painting, but then also brought up the possibility of painting his father’s own Porsche 911. After describing the details of the process and timeline, he determined that a custom painting would be much more special for his father.

After a down payment, I got right to work. The client provided a reference photo, and we discussed certain aspects of the composition. For instance, we decided to leave the front license plate off. Additionally, the reference photo originally had some patio furniture in the background. While we decided to leave the patio furniture out, the client wanted to make sure that the portion of the garage in the background remained, since it was also a source of pride for his father. Details matter and a custom commission like this ensures that the right details are incorporated.

This painting represents my impressionist style, where brush strokes are clearly visible, yet the subject is clearly recognizable. This commission didn’t just stop with the painting. It also included a custom frame that I made out of Sapele. I love Sapele for its rich tones, characteristic grain pattern, and the fact that it’s a hardwood (which factors into workability and durability). I made the frame using my “Racing Stripe” template, which is always a great combination with any performance vehicle painting. Once the painting was dry, varnished, and mounted into the frame, I packed it up for shipping. Packing is an involved process, requiring layers of protective archival quality paper, moisture-resistant wrapping, cushioning bubble wrap, and paper padding. Within the package, I made sure to include the certificate of authenticity, some business cards, some stickers, and a special note to the client’s father. Per the client’s request, I shipped the painting off to his father via second day air.

When I checked with the client to make sure his father received the painting, he said “I cannot thank you enough! He just opened it and absolutely LOVES IT! It looks stunning and I cannot wait to see it in person. Thanks for everything. You were phenomenal to work with. I look forward to working with you again.” This is why I’m passionate about my artwork. Not only do I enjoy the process and the finished products, but knowing that my artwork brings pure joy to others is incredibly rewarding. I’m honored to have been selected for this special commission and cannot wait for my next one!
